The following guide will show you How to Setup your Amazon Firestick.
What is an Amazon Firestick?
The Amazon Fire TV Stick (often called a Firestick) is a small streaming device that plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and connects to the internet over Wi‑Fi. It lets you watch streaming apps like Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, and more, and it also supports features like voice search using the Alexa Voice Remote.
It can also be used to access additional content by sideloading apps (installing apps from outside the Amazon Appstore).
How to Setup Your Firestick (Step-By-Step)
The guide below will show you How To Set Up Firestick on the Fire TV Stick Lite.
However, these steps will be similar to the Fire TV Cube, Firestick 4k, or any other Fire TV device.
Your Firestick or Fire TV purchase includes the following items:
- Fire TV Stick or Fire TV
- Alexa Voice Remote with 2 AAA batteries
- Power cord
- HDMI extender (not included with Fire TV)
You'll also need:
- A compatible HDTV with an HDMI port
- Stable internet connection
- Active Amazon account for setup
Step 1
Remove contents from the package and insert the two AAA batteries into the remote.
Step 2
Plug the power cord into an outlet and into your Firestick.
Step 3
Plug your Firestick into your TV
- Find a HDMI port on your TV.
- Plug the Firestick into it.
- If it doesn’t fit, use the HDMI extender.
🔌 Powering Your Fire TV Stick
For the best experience, we generally recommend powering your Fire TV Stick through your TV’s USB port (if available).
When connected this way, the device will automatically soft restart each time the TV is turned off and back on. This helps refresh the system regularly and can prevent small performance or streaming issues from building up over time.
However, some TVs do not provide stable or sufficient USB power. If you experience random shutdowns, freezing, or boot issues, switch to the included wall power adapter instead.
When powered from the wall adapter, the Firestick will usually stay on even when the TV is turned off. In this case, it will not automatically restart — so if you ever need to refresh the device, you will need to manually reboot it (either through settings or by unplugging the power cable).
